The angel of death claimed James Walton on a Thursday, at the ripe old age of 78. He had initially intended to return to his residence in Spokane, Washington, after his arrival at the home of his brother Martin Van Buren Walton in the best of health. His brother Martin lived near Kirkpatrick, Ohio. However James failed to recover, after being stricken with paralysis, he passed away. He'd been under the care of relatives and the family Doctor. James Walton was known as "Pea vine Jimmy" to many of the first settlers of the Chattaroy, Washington Territory. He died at his brother's home, and he is buried in the Kirkpatrick cemetery. James "Peavine Jimmy" Walton is most notably recognized by the 2nd oldest building in Spokane County that he allegedly built-see; the "Peavine Jimmy" threshing barn (memorial site) situated in Riverside State Park, next to the Old Spokane House, Hudson Bay Company; bordering the historical 'Birchwood Farm Company'. James Walton appears on the Spokane County Washington Territory Census-enumeration date; May 12, 1887, aged 57 years-a farmer, born in 1830. James is the son of David Walton (1796-1853), and Louisa Winchell (1807-1875). His BIRTH originated on December 5th, just five years-following his parents arrival into the Ohio territory by way of horse and wagon teams in 1825 (it is very probable, the family traveled with the United Brethren, and other Quaker families). According to our estimation, we expect that James Walton arrived to the Washington Territory in the early-1870s, @ which point he meets his merchant FRIENDS/partners. In 1882 he settles nearby the Little Spokane River where the mouth opens at Dragoon Creek; here the Station-Keepers rode the stage coach from Deep Creek along the way to the Cottonwood Road on Dragoon Creek, managing a livery stable-General Store, w/a little help from his FRIENDS, & partner B. Frank Goodman/Find A Grave Memorial ID 14162240.
