Maple City-Alberta Dorsey, 97, of Empire, died Thursday afternoon, January 21, 2010, at Maple Valley Nursing Home, Maple City.
Born January 27, 1912, in Traverse City, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Mabel (White) Warner. On April 19, 1952, at the First Congregational Church in Traverse City, she married John S. Dorsey, who preceded her in death on February 27, 2009. Their marriage of fifty-six years, was filled with much respect, honor and unfailing love.
Along with her husband, Alberta developed the Glen Lake Trailer Park, which originated as a campground started by John’s parents. It was there, that she enjoyed visiting with their guests and catching up on family news, during their morning coffee breaks. In their final retirement years they were able to enjoy a winter home in Brooksville, FL and a new home in Glen Lake.
Alberta will be fondly remembered as a social butterfly who enjoyed her membership with the Empire United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Rebecca Lodge and Bata Sigma Phi.
Alberta is survived by her son-in-law, George Myers; three granddaughters, Margaret (Allen) Bright of Lake Ann, Sharon (Steve) Harrigan and Patricia (Steven) Majszak both of Traverse City; son, Gerald (Shirley) Solem; two grandsons; 14 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; two nieces, Christine R (Duane) Shugart and Gwen Dasher.
In addition to her husband, Alberta was also preceded in death by her daughter, Clarine Myers; two sisters, Ina and Myrtle.
A Memorial Service will take place at Empire United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Brenda Gordon will officiate.
Burial will follow at Empire Maple Grove Cemetery.
In remembrance of Alberta, memorials may be directed to the Empire United Methodist Church. Envelopes may be obtained at the church.
Arrangements were made with the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City.
