Daughter of Adam and Lou Montague
age 60

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On June 2, 1931, Amanda Branch died at the age of 75, and was soon after buried at Evergreen Cemetery. She was one of the charter members of the Independent Order of St. Luke's Evergreen Council, No. 159, after it formed in 1895.

Born Amanda Montague in 1856, she married John Branch by the time she was 18. Amanda was soon widowed but not before having two daughters, Rosa and Carrie. Aside from a brief stint as a nurse in 1908, Amanda was known to have worked as a domestic servant throughout her adult years, occasionally living with white families who employed her. When not living with them, however, Amanda lived with other members of her own family in the Church Hill neighborhood, east of downtown. At the time of her death, Amanda had recently moved in with her daughter Carrie on 28th St.
