The family live on the Marksham, South Dayton Road in Cattaraugus Co., NY on an 84 acre dairy farm. There was a windmill near the house which pumped water for the cattle. The Bassingers, who were Roman Catholic, came from Germany. Anthony was born here and had 3 brothers, Joseph, Peter and Paul and a sister Mary. Anthony died suddenly of a heart attack while cutting trees in his woods with his oldest son, Fred. At the time of his death there was 6 children with the seventh, William, being born 8 1/2 months Later.
Fred Gilbert, Ellen's brother, worked the farm after Anthony's death. Following Ellen's death 5 years later, the farm was rented. Frank bought the farm in 1896 paying each brother and sister for their share. He is buried in a small cemetery , behind the school house residence on School Street.
