Lucille W. Reed, of Dover, Florida, blessed us with her beautiful smile and her even more beautiful soul for 84 years. Now she is sharing her sweet spirit with the angels. Nana Reed left us on July 26, 2017.

She is survived by her husband, James J. Reed of Dover; son, James “Jimroe” Reed and wife, Donna M., of Ormond Beach; and daughter, Karen Barajas and husband, Adam, of Dover. She also is survived by grandchildren, Staci Altman and husband, Ryan, Clay Barnes, Matthew Reed, and Amanda Hill; and great-grandsons, Ryan Altman and Grayson Hill. Survivors also include sister-in-law, Ophelia Lewis of North Carolina; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born on August 27, 1932, to James M. and Sallie Belvin Winters in Atoka, Oklahoma, Lucille was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. She had survived her six siblings. Lucille graduated as valedictorian from the Sequoyah School, a Native American boarding school in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, where she was elected school Princess. She headed off to college where she promptly met Jim Reed of Dover. They married on May 30, 1951, beginning a 66-year love story that included two children, four grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

She proudly raised her children and supported her husband's high school coaching career at Pinecrest and Turkey Creek. Eventually, Lucille returned to college, graduating from the University of South Florida. For 21 years she taught primary grades at Cork Elementary School in Plant City. Her gentle ways and easy, dimpled smile made her beloved by her "angel babies" at Cork.

A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, August 1 at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church Dover, 3223 Gallagher Road, Dover 33527, where the family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M. A graveside committal will follow at Dover Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Dover Building Fund at www.FirstBaptistDover.org. Expressions of condolence at www.HopewellFuneral.com.
