Mr. Nelson was born in Haugesund, Norway, August 27, 1863. He came to the United States in 1888, settling in Helena, where he minded for gold. A few years later he came to Great Falls, MT to work in the smelter. In 1892 he married Carrie Peterson of Great Falls, MT. Mrs. Nelson died March 13, 1936. In 1910 Mr. and Mrs. Nelson settled a homestead in the Sun River addition project to do diversified farming.
Survivors include three sons, Herman and Adolph of Fairfield and Martin of Fort Peck; two daughters, Mrs. J.G. Gronberg and Mrs. Selmer Hanson of Fairfield; two brothers in Norway and nine grandchildren. Martin Nelson, the only brother Mr. Nelson had in the States, died in February 1935.
