As of this writing (June 2017) I am attributing Hiram Westlake to parents James Westlake and Clarissa Whiting. From some census records he was born in Pennsylvania and had removed to Illinois by 1847 when he married there, presumably accompanying his mother Clarissa and her third husband William Seeley to Illinois. Hiram named his eldest child Clarissa, presumably named for his mother. His second child had the middle name Judson, presumably named after his brother Judson Westlake who remained in Pennsylvania.
His obituary indicates he was a native of Elmwood, New York, which is presumably a misprint and refers to Elmira, New York, not far from Columbia township in Bradford County where his parents resided.

Enumerated in Alisal, Monterey County in 1870, farmer. Enumerated in Castroville, Salinas County in 1880, farmer.
