Reported age at time of death was 40 years, so evidently born about 1858.

"GEORGE DAVIS DEAD: A Well-Known Citizen of Girard Has Passed Away. // Mr. George DAVIS died at his house on First street in Girard at 11 o'clock Thursday night after an illness of three weeks of typhoid dysentery. The deceased was about forty years of age, and was a member of the Red Jacket Tribe of Red Men of Phenix City. He was an honest citizen and estimable gentleman, and was generally liked by all who knew him. // Besides his wife, mother and one little daughter, he is survived by two brothers and one sister. They are John DAVIS, of Harris county, Mr. Jackson DAVIS, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Thomas MEHAFFY, of Griffin. The deceased's family have the sympathy of the entrie community in the hour of their bereavement. // The funeral took place from Bethel [?] Christian church at 8 o'clock yesterday afternoon and the interment was in Linwood cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Elder, in the presence of a member of friends and acquaintances of the deceased. The pall bearers were: Messrs. J. W. WEAVER, J. M. HOLT, J. A. C. PARKER, L. G. BIGGERS, Wm. TURNAGE and L. R. OGLETREE." [Columbus (GA) Enquirer-Sun newspaper, Saturday, 17 SEP 1898, p. 3.]

Mary Jane Galer's list of persons interred in the New Cemetery area of Linwood shows: Geo. DAVIS , male, died aged 40 years of dysentery; buried 16 SEP 1898 in Section 1, Lot 30 1/2 - Jesse Alec BEARD.

This grave is probably not identifiably marked. Lots 30 1/2 and 84 1/2 in Section 1 were owned by Emily DAVIS (date of sale and price of purchase not reported). Others reported to be here include: Eliza DAVIS, buried 26 MAY 1875 (aged 18 years); a child of George DAVIS, buried 19 JUN 1881 (stillborn); and Syrena Emmaline "Emily" (McCOLLISTER) DAVIS, buried 17 JUL 1907 (aged 82 years). In same lot or nearby lot: Bennie DAVIS.

City 1-30 1/2 and 84 1/2 appear to correspond with the southwest portion of Lot 164 in Section A of Dolores Autry's "Historic Linwood Cemetery" book (edited by Lea Dowd et al.), Volume 1. The lot evidently has no marked graves and is open to the lot on its north side, so Autry made no distinction between them.
