Veteran of World War II. Served in the United States Navy Seabees and later was attached to a Medical Unit with the United States Marine Corps. Participated in the Pacific Campaigns of Siapan, Guam, Iwo Jima, Okinawa and the invasion of the Philippines. Served as Chief Petty Officer in the Naval Reserves. Preceded in death by his parents, William Washington and Mary Elvina Bowen; and children, Barbara Jane Bowen and James Gregory Bowen. Extracted from obituary in the Orlando Sentinel, January 27, 2006; and the Social Security Death Index.
