On Aug 6, 1922, a little red-head baby girl was born in a two story home on E. Central Blvd., Orlando, FL. James Madison Osteen and his wife, Angeline (Story) Osteen, announced the arrival of Thelma Jane, to her older sibling, Lucille Osteen. Later, a son named Jimmy (Sonny Boy) Osteen was added to this forever loving family.
The "Old Place" as it is called today was brand new back then. It is still in the family today. Thelma Jane was raised in the Pioneer Spirit of Florida Cracker Heritage. It is said her people migrated from the Carolinas and Georgia in carts pulled by teams of oxen before Florida was even a U.S. Territory.
She was a true Southern Lady of the Old South manners. Thelma Jane was always ready for adventure. She loved horses, flying airplanes, skating, and dancing. She loved music of the 40's, Country and Irish ballads.
Young Thelma Jane married John M Bowen. They had four children, Charles (Butch), Mike, Jane and Greg. John Bowen served as an "Elder" in the Primitive Baptist Church for over 50 years.
Thelma Jane had wonderful, fun-loving interaction with all age groups, especially children. She loved dressing like a clown to entertain children. She often went without so her children could have. She also loved many animals over her lifetime, especially dogs. She was her children's best critic but likewise the first to compliment and always ready to encourage any special talents.
When she met a military veteran, she thanked them for their service and saluted. She especially had a fondness for Marines.
Thelma Jane loved reading and was fond of poetry, history, and biographies. But her favorite book was the King James Version of the Holy Bible.
Thelma Jane crossed over the River Jordan to be in the loving arms of her Saviour on June 28, 2013. Her funeral service will be held at 11am, in the Chapel at Christmas Cemetery, Christmas, FL.
