Gene Nodine 84 of Moab Utah passed away May 5, 2017 in his home. Gene was born July 25, 1932 to John ‘Jack’ Nodine and Ruth Marie Menzel. He married the love his life, Helen Anderson Nodine, August 25 1956 and enjoyed 60 years of raising children and enjoying grandchildren. Gene joined the Navy soon after graduating from Lake Preston High School in 1952. He served his country till 1956. He served in the Korean War. While in the Navy he became pen pals with Helen and was smart enough to marry her when he returned home. He graduated from Utah State University in Range Conservation in 1961 and began his 30 years working for the Bureau of Land Management. He played a pivotal role in the first wild horse round up in the great basin in Nevada. He and Helen resided in Montana, Oregon, Nevada and finally settled in Moab Utah. Gene was an avid outdoorsmen who’s love for the country was evident in his vast knowledge of its history. His jovial nature and his ability to speak easily to everyone he met made him a joy to be around. Above all else Gene Nodine loved his family and made them his first priority.

Gene is survived by his wife Helen, his children: Rosemarie Olsen(Craig), Julie Barber(Scott), Robert Nodine (Summer) his grandchildren: Austin, Macady, Caitlyn, Benjamin, Olivia, Charlotte, McKenna, Shelby, his twin brother Dean(Joyce) and sister Luella.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters, two brothers and his daughter Laurie Helen Nodine. Gene’s laughter and joy will be greatly missed. Services will be Saturday May 13 at 3:00 at the LDS Stake Center at 701 Locust Lane. Friends may call at the church from 1:30-2:45 prior to services. Interment will take place at Fillmore City Cemetery. Graveside service to be held on Monday May 15, 2017 at 10:00 am.
