OBITUARIES Mrs. Marion Beach 84, Dies Mrs. Marion W. Skinner Beach. 84. of Belvedere, educator and former college president, died last night at a local hospital after a short illness. She resided at 23 Cove Road. A native of Lawrence. Mass.. Mrs. Beach was a graduate of Radcliffe College and received an M.A. from Columbia University She had also pursued graduate studies at Stanford University. Middleburg College, and Marburg University. Germany In 1927 Mrs Beach founded Weylister Secretarial College in Milford, Conn.. and was its president until it became a college of the University of Bridgeport in 1948. She then served as director of the college and advisor to the president of the university. Before founding Weylister College. Mrs. Beach was director of the Katharine Gibbs School in Boston, and was professor of English and dean of women at University of Dubuque. Iowa. During World War II she was adviser to the personnel director of Chance-Vought Aircraft Corp.. Bridgeport, Conn. Her father. George Selby Jun-kins was mayor of Lawrence. Mass She was married in 1903 to Prof Macy M Skinner of Harvard In 1933 she was married to George W Beach, manufacturer and civic leader of Minneapolis. Minn., and Dubuque. Iowa Mrs. Beach was editor of the school edition of Dorothy Can-Held Fisher's “The Bent Twig” and author of articles on English. and on school and college administration. She was a member of the American Assn. of University Women, the National League of American Penwomen. P.E.O. Sisterhood, and Gamma Phi Beta. She leaves two sons. Dr. Selby Skinner of Baltimore, Md., and Carlton Skinner of Belvedere and five grandchildren. Burial will be In Lawrence. Mass.
