Marcia Milligan, 75, of Coldwater, MI, died Friday, March 24, 2017, at Maple Lawn in Coldwater after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.
Marcia was born March 1, 1942, to Edgar and Mildred Spencer in Chesterton, Indiana, where she graduated from Chesterton High School. She married Marvin Milligan of Sherwood on Jan. 7, 1961, in Porter, Indiana. Marvin preceded her in death on May 31, 2008, and shortly after that, she moved to Coldwater to be near her son and his wife who live on the family farm.
Marcia and Marvin spent their married life in Park Forest, Illinois, and raised their family there. In 1978 she and Marvin purchased a family farm in Quincy, MI. Marvin was born and raised in Branch County, and Marcia came to love the area as much as he. After the purchase of the farm, they and their children and other family members spent weekends, vacations, and any other time they could break away from the city, at the farm. Marvin was a master wood craftsman who restored the buildings on the farm, while Marcia, who loved gardening, beautified the lane and woods surrounding their cottage by planting daffodil, narcissus, and tulip bulbs along with numerous other flowers. She also found joy spending time organizing family photo albums. She was also an animal lover and shared her life with her beloved cats Fillmore and Quincy.
Marcia is survived by her mother of Chesterton, IN, her son Matthew (Jennifer) Milligan of Quincy, her daughters Michelle (Glen) Marvin of Oak Forest, IL, and Michael (Jim Jernigan) Milligan of Cleburne, Texas, a grandson Jason Marvin and a granddaughter, Jenna Marvin, both of Oak Forest, Il.
She was preceded in death by her father and her brother, Donald Spencer, of Chesterton, IN.
Memorials can made to the CHC Cancer Center and Branch County Humane Society.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at 12 Noon at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Trent Hammond, from Crossroads Bible Church in Sherwood. Interment will follow at Sherwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 28, 2017, from 6-8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home.
