The LORD called the name of his servant Gerry "Granny" Strickland, 68, formerly of Vidalia, LA, on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at her home in Burleson, TX., and she went to be with Him.

She worked as a teachers aide in the Concordia Parish Schools and was a former employee of Big Star. She was a longtime employee of Otasco in Vidalia. She had a beautiful singing voice and was at one time choir director at Calvary Baptist Church and Vidalia Methodist Church in Vidalia.

Survivors include  her son, Derrick Strickland and wife Debbie Burgess Strickland of Burleson; grandson Justin Strickland and wife, Sara of Fort Bragg, N.C.; sister, Lonnie Parker Janszen and husband, Andrew of San Antonio, TX; and companion, Ronnie Owens and son, Jimmy Owens.

She was know as Granny to scores of teenagers and young people in the Miss Lou because she took us under her wing and shared her knowledge of life and Jesus. She would call us her adopted children and each one was special to her. The list of names would be too long to print.
