It was taken to Frostburg. The body was located by Sheriff Hugh A. Hotchkiss, County Investigator,
Terrence J. Boyle, Game Warden Harry R. Kenney and Clifford Fearer, assisted by a group of men who dragged the river in the morning and afternoon. County Investigator Boyle with the County Coroner questioned Martz's companions last night. Martz was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Martz, of Frostburg. Besides his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Mary and Josephine, at home; Mrs. Carrie Morone and Mrs. Angela Smone, Akron, Ohio; and by two brothers, Michael and Frank, at home. Martz, in company with Lucien Harper, colored, Lawrence Kasekamp and George Whitehead, all of Frostburg, drove down in Kasekamp's car Thursday night to Green Ridge on a fishing trip, stopping along the canal towpath. They fished and swam in the river Friday, making a camp and building a fire. Martz fell asleep in the afternoon and later the others went to sleep by the fire. Whitehead was awakened about 11 o'clock by hearing cries for help, after a splash, and called his companions. They missed Martz from their group and searched along the bank. They also called to two other men in the river nearby who joined the search. Later they crossed over to a railroad tower and had Police Headquarters and the Sheriff's office notified in Cumberland.
