Longtime, highly respected, neurosurgeon at Bluefield Sanitarium. Served in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps during World War II and the Korean Conflict, reaching the rank of Commander. Gained national fame when he saved boxer Tunney Hunsaker after a severe head injury sustained in Beckley in 1962, the case making the national news due to Benny "Kid" Paret having been killed on live TV a few weeks prior. He served as Senior Warden at Christ Episcopal Church, Bluefield, WV in 1959, 1966, and 1972. Dr. Gage was an avid hunter and supporter of the Second Amendment. He died of heart disease.
