Anna Barna (nee Howansky), a longtime Yonkers resident, died on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at her residence. She was 69 years old. She was born on June 20, 1937 to Damian and Fotyna Szewczyk Howansky in Zdynia, Lemkiwshchyna (which is part of present day Poland) where she was raised and educated. Mrs. Barna was a bank teller at the SUMA Ukrainian Federal Credit Union in Yonkers for many years. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yonkers where she was very active. She was also very active in the Ukrainian community in general. Mrs. Barna also enjoyed trips to Atlantic City. On August 28, 1960, she married Michael Barna in Wolow, Poland. Mr. Barna survives and lives in Yonkers. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Peter Barna of Yonkers, two daughters, Barbara Andrusko and her husband, Emil of Yonkers and Nina Barna of Yonkers, and two brothers, Steven Howansky of Wilton, CT and Peter Howansky of Yonkers. She is also survived by her two grandsons, Michael and Andrijko. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Mary Howansky. Visitation will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Panakhida Service Thursday, 7:30 pm. Divine Liturgy will be held in St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church on Friday, March 16 at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
