Michael Barna of Yonkers died on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at age 78. Born on March 21, 1937 to Teodozy and Matrona (Swiakiwska) Barna in the Village of Mochnacka Vyshnia of Poland where he was raised and educated. Mr. Barna was a self-employed tool and dye maker until his retirement in 2010. He met the love of his life and on August 28, 1960 he married Anna (Hana) Howansky in Wolow, Poland; she died in 2007. He worked in Poland at the local prison as a machinist. He came to America in 1967. Michael was a parishioner of St. Michaels Ukrainian Catholic Church; he also was a member and former treasurer of (ODFFL) Organization for Defense of Lemkivschyna. He enjoyed all sports especially Soccer and also did some coaching with girls volleyball. He will be remembered as a kind, hardworking man who loved his family, friends, Ukrainian Community, Pyrohy, and his ice cream. Mr. Barna is survived by his three children; Peter Barna; Barbara (Emil) Andrusko and Nina (Billy) Barna and His two grandsons; Michael and Andrijko. He is also survived by his nephews Peter Chomiak and Darek Chomiak and his siblings Petro Barna, Maria Chomiak and Melania Barna. He was predeceased by his brother Volodymyr. Visiting hours will be at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Parastas service will be at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Monday, December 28th at St. Michaels Ukrainian Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery.
