Lloyd "Poodle" Newman, 79, of Rarden, Ohio, passed away Monday, November 21, 2016, at SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. He was born April 4, 1937, in Rarden, son of the late Alton and Dessie Moore Newman. On January 14, 1961, Lloyd was united in marriage to Alice Ann Smith Newman who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Misti Cunningham and husband Roger of Stout, Ohio, Melody Messer and husband Jerry of McDermott, Ohio; two grandsons, Alec and Drew Cunningham, step granddaughter, Alyssa Messer, and four sisters, Jackie Johnson and husband Bucky of Peebles, Ohio, Evelyn Berkhart of Urbana, Ohio, Betty Stultz of Vevay, Indiana and Valina Clark of Virginia. In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by a son, Lloyd Newman, Jr., eight brothers and seven sisters.

Lloyd was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran having served during the Korean Conflict, was a laborer with Local # 83, and attended the Rarden Church of the Nazarene.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016, at the Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Otway, Ohio, with Rev. Larry Windle and Rev. Richard Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Mustard Cemetery, Rarden, with military honors conducted by Wm. A. Baker Post # 383, American Legion, Lucasville, Ohio . The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Friday and from noon until the service on Saturday.

The family would like the thank SOMC Hospice for all their excellent care given to Lloyd, and in lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made in Lloyd's name to SOMC Hospice, 2201 25th Street, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662.
