Max departed from Hamburg and sailed on the Bulgaria ship which arrived to the US port of New York in 1898 at ag 17. He worked as a retail merchant in the meat market under the wing of George Steffan he was living with. Max eventually owned his own shop as a butcher. He first married Eva "Ida" Maria Wolpert, who was also from Bavaria Germany, in New York around 1906. He had three children Irene Barbara, Gladys , and Maxine Elizabeth. Ida passed in 1921 and he remarried Appolonia Lonchon "Loni" Schipper who was from Bavaria Germany.
