Birthname was Elijah Anderson, known as "Lige" his entire life and his headstone displays his nickname as his first (given) name. Husband of Lucy Mae DeFee Anderson, who is buried alongside him, and father of Ollie Mae Anderson Marvin (b. 1927) & Garrett Anderson (b. 1920 - d. 1980).

He was born in Sellers, AL on March 2, 1885 to Thomas & Virginia (Tarver) Anderson, descendants of Clan Anderson, one of the original great clans of Scotland whose members fought alongside one of the greatest kings in Scottish history, Robert the Bruce, and the gerat Scottish patriot William Wallace in the Wars of Scottish Independence which were made famous worldwide by the 1995 movie "Braveheart" starring Mel Gibson - the Anderson clan estate is located right next to the Bruce clan estate and is situated right next to all the historical battlefields from that era. Lige's father Thomas came to America from Scotland and landed in North Carolina before moving his family to Alabama appx 20 miles sounth of Montgomery where Lige was born.
