Franz was born in Breslau, Germany 1843 and married Bertha Meister bef. Jun 17, 1868 in Breslau.
The Schmidt family emigrated from Breslau, Germany, and arrived in New York on April 21, 1881.
Franz was of the Catholic faith and Bertha was Prostestant - Evengelical Lutheran in Chicago, Ill.
Breslau was in the province of Schlesien, Prussia in the 1800's and is in Lower Silesia (Niederschlesien). In 1945, Breslau became once again, Wroclaw, Poland.
Marriage is based on birth of eldest child... assume town of Breslau to be marriage site.
1900 United States Federal Census > Illinois > Cook > Chicago Ward 15 > District 492
shows immigration dates 1881 for Franz & Bertha both being in US 19 yrs. for census, soooooooooo this is written by Aunt Mary's husband's (Geo. Cappell) entry for census as they were living in duplex with Franz and Bertha at 446 Fullerton Ave. States that they were mar. 32 yrs. with 6 of 12 children living on census. Franz occupation was a horseshoer

Bartz family: They are listed as buried in the same plot as Franz & Bertha along with their son, George (who owned the plot) & wife, Martha Bartz Schmidt. I do NOT know who they are, can only assume that Marie here is a sibling or cousin of Franz or Bertha
Marie age 58 died Aug 10, 1897
Ida age 11 d. Sept 18 1897
Fred age 1 & 1 mo. d. Jun 28 1900
Louis age 71 & 11 mos. died Feb. 25, 1907
Edward age 6 days died Oct 27, 1909
BINGO: on George's mar. cert. I find that Martha's maiden name is Bartz, thus Louis is her brother.

Ancestry shows Louis 1900 census as widower b. Mar 1835 Germany, Immig. 1882 living on his own age 65
