Entry in Sexton’s card file for Linwood Cemetery shows: Bennie DAVIS, single male, died aged 2 years at 613 Second Avenue [Columbus] of pneumonia; interred 10-16-1913 in Section 1, Lot 81 1/2, by undertaker Torbett, per local death certificate #4043 - Sexton Emory JEFFERSON.
"LITTLE SON OF MR. AND MRS. R. DAVIS DEAD // Bennie, the two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert DAVIS, died at the home of his parents at 612 Second avenue yesterday afternoon of pneumonia. // The child had been suffering for some time, but his death came as a distinct shock to the many friends of the family who deeply sympathize with them in their bereavement. // The funeral is to be held this morning from the Church of the Holy Family. Definite arrangements had not been made last night." [Columbus (GA) Enquirer-Sun newspaper, Wednesday, 15 OCT 1913, p. 8.]
"LITTLE BENNIE DAVIS DIED YESTERDAY // Bennie DAVIS, the two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert DAVIS, died at their residence, 614 Second avenue, yesterday afternoon after a lingering illness with pneumonia. // The funeral will take place at nine-thirty o'clock tomorrow morning from the Church of the Holy Family. Father SCHLENKE will officiate." [Columbus (GA) Ledger newspaper, Wednesday, 15 OCT 1913, p. 7.]
Lot 81 1/2 in Section 2 has two marked graves in it: Robert P. ALLEN (1850-1938) and wife Carolina May ALLEN (1853-1929). It is adjacent to the lot with unmarked graves for Syrena Emaline "Emily" (McCOLLISTER) DAVIS (died 1907) & Eliza DAVIS (died 1875).
However, 81 1/2 may not be an accurate lot number. One row over, the half lots in this position would be adjacent to the lot where Robert A. DAVIS (1880-1923) is buried.
This grave is evidently not identifiably marked.
