Radames Vargas was born on January 3, 1938 in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, to very proud parents, Andres Vargas and Dolores Leon Vargas. During the late 1940's to early 1950's, Andres and Dolores migrated to New York City to find a better life for 11 year old Radames and his five siblings -- Luis Enrique, Dolores, Esther, Luz and William -- and settled in the Longwood section of the Bronx. As a child, Radames was taught the importance of being a family, hard work and to cherish the love he shared with his parents, brothers and sisters.

After finishing highschool in the late 1950's, Radames went to barber school and received his barbers license. He worked for many years in Manhattan and enjoyed his job. He enjoyed it so much that several years later he opened his own barber shop in the Bronx where he met wonderful and loyal friends along the way.

In the late 1960's, Radames met and married Heriberta Iris Alicea and inherited two wonderful children, Pedro and Elizette Ramos, whom he loved and raised as his own. Several years later, Radames and Iris had three wonderful children of their own: Radames, Jr., Andres and Edwin and taught them, as well as Pedro and Elizette, the things that he learned as child – the importance of being a family, hard work and to cherish the love we have for one another for years to come.

What everyone remembers the most about Radames is how he would bring the family together every Sunday (after church) with a game of softball during the summer.

As he enters the gates of heaven, Radames will join his son, Andres Vargas, who died in 2002. And his father, Andres Vargas, his mother Dolores Leon Vargas, his younger brother William Vargas and his nephew who was also named William Vargas.

We will miss his laugh and his warm smile.

Radames was a wonderful father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend and we will all miss him very much. He was, and is still, loved by all of us.

Rest in Peace and may God Bless You Always.
