Bobby "Dean" King, 74, of Yuma, Arizona, has lost his long and courageous fight with leukemia at his son's home in Bend, Oregon with his wife at his side on Nov. 29, 2015. His friends knew him as Dean. He was born in Weiser, Idaho, on June 9, 1941.

He met his best friend and life partner, Carolyn, and they were married in 1961 and that's where their love story begins. Dean was an exceptional hard worker and businessman. He bought his first Richfield service station at age 21 in Boardman, Oregon, and a Texaco service station after that. In 1963, they had their first son, Rodney, and their second son, Mark, in 1966.

In 1968, they decided to sell and head north to Alaska. North Pole became home, where they raised their boys. He worked as a construction welder with operating Engineers Union 302. His passion though was building and restoring street rods.

He was an avid supporter and member of Arctic Wheels of Alaska and very proud of his accomplishments in raising money for the Alaska Crippled Children and Adults through car show events.

He was a longtime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. Dean retired in 1994, and he and his bride set off to find some warmer weather. In 1996, he decided Yuma, Arizona, was the perfect place to call home. They made countless friends, many from Canada, and really loved desert living. Dean was always there to help someone in need, doing small projects, giving his friends a hard time and watching Nascar.

Dean leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of 54 years; son Rodney (JoAnna) King, of Bend, Oregon; son Mark King, of North Pole; granddaughters Amanda King, of Fairbanks; Jessica King, of Fairbanks; brother Wayne (Marilyn) King, of Fairbanks; sisters Iris (Gail) Cox, of Gladstone, Oregon; Darleen Cross, of Gresham, Oregon; Ruby Schwartz, of Sheridan, Oregon; sister-in-law Cleone King, of Portland, Oregon; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Dean was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. He is preceded in death by his father, George King; his mother, Letha King, and his brother, Wesley King.

A huge thank you to the St. Charles Hospice of Bend for their loving care and support. A special thank-you to Pam for putting up with him and taking such good care of him in his time of need. You will never know how much your kindness has meant to our family during a very hard time.

Dean's wishes were to have his body donated to Bio-gift Anatomical. After, he will be cremated, and his ashes will be buried in Boardman, Oregon. There will be no services or memorial per his request. His only wish was to be remembered and to have you know that he felt truly blessed to be part of your lives. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Published in Daily News-Miner on Dec. 7, 2015.
