The birth dates are off by a year, 1908 vs 1907 and the birth day is the 16th vs 25th. Thomas was born on November 16, 1908 in Videkic Selo, Croatia, to Peter and Frances Mrconja, AKA Murphy. They arrived from abroad to America when Thomas was approximately 3 or 4 years old. The US Census records have 1910 as the year Pete immigrated and 1911 when Frances and Thomas immigrated. Another US Census record has them all immigrating in 1910. More research is needed to confirm date they arrived.

Tom worked in the coal mines and was a coal mine foreman. His dad also worked in the coal mines. When they hired Pete, they told him he would have to change his name Mrconja because it was to difficult to pronounce. That is when the family name was changed to Murphy.
