Wady Cheek's ancestry has been traced to James Cheek Sr. This family migrated from Brunswick Co., VA to Bute Co, NC, but settled in Orange Co. near Hillsborough, NC in 1772. James Cheek Sr. is known to be the father of seven children. The first evidence of the Cheeks in the Northwestern section of North Carolina is Henderson Cheek (Wady's brother) in the 1830 Wilkes Co. Census. Her father, Richard Cheek at some time followed, for his last will and testament was signed and witnessed on December 27, 1864 in Alleghany Co., NC. He left "My money what is left at the death of my wife Jenny Cheek to be equally divided between my heirs Richard Cheek, Merideth Cheek, Henderson Cheek, Gilly Edwards, Wady Crouse, Pinky Blevins, Martha Richardson and heirs of Chesley Cheek, dead. My household, kitchen furniture, one bed and stead and bed clothes enough for the part to be equally divided between my four daughters: Gilly Edwards, Wady Crouse, Pinky Blevins and Martha Richardson."
