Lillard Dawson, 98, of Lawrenceburg, died Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Kindred Nursing and Rehab Center in Harrodsburg. He is the husband of the late Garnett McGaughey Dawson and was born in Anderson County to the late Allen and Fannie Short Dawson. Dawson was a graduate of Lexington Barber College and worked as a barber for 15 years at the Lawrenceburg Barber Shop. He and Carl McGaughey ran the former Boone Way Garage in Stringtown and he served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He is a member of the Sand Spring Baptist Church.

Dawson is survived by a daughter, Nancy Dawson of Lawrenceburg. Including his wife and parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Allie Dudley Moore and Nancy Jones, and three brothers, J.W., C.C., and Coleman Dawson.

Services were held April 23 at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Hamrick and Bro. Claude Waldridge officiating. Burial followed in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Eddie Thompson, Leslie J. McGaughey, Bob Figlestahler, Allen Dawson, Ralph Morris, Allen Robinson and C.C. Fallis. Honorary bearers were Bill Dawson, Garvice Stratton, Ralph Morris, Alton and Mark Warford.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Sand Spring Baptist Church, 1616 Harrodsburg Rd., L-burg, KY 40342 or Anderson Co. Humane Society, P.O. Box 494, L-burg, KY 40342. Nancy wishes to express her sincere appreciation and thanks for the outstanding nursing care provided by the South Wing of Kindred Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Facility in Harrodsburg under the direction of the nurse manager Ann Hobbs.
