Gospel Musician, Author. His career began with The Imperials in 1964 as a singer, keyboard player and arranger. He performed with Elvis Presley from 1965 to 1972. He was president and board member of the Gospel Music Association, the Board of Governors for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and the W.O. Smith-Nashville Community Music School. He was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2007 and had previously been inducted as a member of The Imperials. He was the author of "The Gospel Side of Elvis". He suffered from a degenerative neurological disease that had robbed him of mobility and strength for several years contributing to the cause of death.
