Killed In Action on mission over France to bomb the German V-1 and V-2 rocket sites.
Near Cherbourg, hit by flak moments after 'bombs away.' Wing and engine afire, went into spin and then a dive. The aircraft then exploded. Only the top turret gunner survived when he was blown out by the explosion. The B-17 crashed at Théville, France, killing nine crew aboard:
