French immigrant brothers Ernest and Alexis Blanc robbed and murdered esteemed Scott store owner Martin Begnaud. The murder shocked not only south Louisiana, but became an international story involving dime novels, greed and courtroom drama.

The brothers lie in an unmarked single grave about 40 yards from the back of Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church. According author William Arceneaux in his 2004 book "No Spark of Malice" the boys possibly lie in a grassy knoll that acts as a walkway between tomb "streets." The book is not only descriptive of the murder and trial, but also details the history of the Acadian migration. Efforts made in the mid-1990's to ascertain the precise burial spot of the brothers were turned down by the courts.

The funeral records in this section are taken from the Book of the Dead. In the "cemetery" column, in the absence of a cemetery name it can be assumed that the deceased is buried in the St. John Cemetery. This does not mean, however, that this name will appear in the part 1 listing. Made up mostly from a survey of headstones, the part 1 listing does not show unmarked tombs of which there are many.
