Note: There is a note from the cemetery stating he is the son of James & Mary (Hodson) Grant [m. 25 Dec 1760]. Mary Hodsdon was bapt. 1740 at South Berwick and she is the dau of Thomas & Mary (Libby?) Hodsdon. James⁴ (Peter³, Capt James², Peter¹), b. abt 1738. According to Old Kittery and her families (1903), pg 473, James had Molly and Thomas, no dates given, and it appears he removed from Kittery/South Berwick after their birth.

Other records indicate Daniel is the son of Daniel⁴ (Peter³, Capt James², Peter¹), bapt. 6 Aug 1727; m. 17 Aug 1748 to Sarah Cleats [Cleare]. According to Old Kittery and her families (1903), pg 473, Daniel and Sarah only had Elizabeth, 1752; and, Sarah, 1754. It appears Sarah died at South Berwick aft or at the birth of Sarah.

Note: Daniel was born at Berwick, where James was at; Daniel and Sarah were at South Berwick; everything indicates that he is the son of James and Mary.
