Mary Helen Sykes, 76, passed away August 10, 1990, in a Salt Lake hospital.

Born November 27, 1913, in Lockesburg, Arkansas to Mae and Dan Coulter. Married Thomas Sykes on February 24, 1961, in Ely, Nevada. She was a professional domestic cook for over 30 years, and reared 23 foster children and two of her own. She was a homemaker, generous and loving mother who will be very much missed.

Survived by: husband, Salt Lake City; daughters, Violetta and Laura Ann Sykes, both Salt Lake City; son, Cameron Lopes, Salt Lake City; brothers, Lonzo Coulter, New Orleans, Louisiana; John Norwood, Los Angeles, Calif.; Robert Bell, DeQueen, Arkansas; sisters, Clara Williams, Salt Lake City; Velma J. Carter, Denver, Colorado; Nellie Smith, Denver, Colorado; Jimmie B. Walker, Denver, Colorado; Jane Wilson, Denver, Colorado; Murel Adams, Denver, Colorado; Frances Bell, Gary, Indiana; Mary Gregory, Gary, Indiana; Adel Rogers, Sacramento, Calif.; Mavis Bell, Chicago, Ill.; a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 16, at Evans & Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 So., where friends may call one hour prior to service. Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
