Boyd Braem, 55, Venice, formerly of Osprey and St. Petersburg, died May 1, 2007. Services were May 15 at Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home. Survivors include a brother, Lee; a sister, Becki; and his stepmother, Sharon Braem. His brother, Guy Braem, passed away of cancer approximately three years ago. His parents, Carl and Lyla Braem, passed away when Boyd was young. Boyd was born in Wisconsin in 1952. He was a graduate of the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He interned in San Diego and served as a Naval flight surgeon in Key West. He had some adventures while in the Navy, being airlifted onto a ship at sea to treat a sailor, and flew in Navy fighters at speeds exceeding Mach 1.
After Boyd left the Navy, he joined Sarasota Family Medical Practice in Sarasota until he retired in 1996. Boyd was married from 1978 to 2002 to Sally Cole Braem, a biologist with the State of Florida. Boyd always loved music, learned to fly and maintained a high-performance airplane at the Venice airport. He was fond of mastiffs and had two English mastiffs at the time of his death. The family plans a remembrance for Boyd in Wisconsin during the summer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Southern States Mastiff Rescue.
