Genevieve McDaniel Kajs passed from this earthly life into eternal joy with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 19, 2013. She was born in Crowell, Texas, on November 30, 1935, daughter of William Edward and Bernice Schlagal McDaniel. She attended Texas Tech College (now Texas Tech University) and married Antone Joseph Kajs. They are the parents of seven children. Three sons, James Anthony, Charles Thomas and John Gregory preceded their mother in death. Surviving are Eva Cecelia (Toby) Hayes of Waynesville, NC, Marie Celeste (Travis) Mileti of Cashiers, NC, Charlotte Hollingsworth of Clemmons, NC and Elizabeth Ann (Adrian) Leuenberger of Zurich, Switzerland. Genevieve worked in secretarial positions until Antone graduated college, and then she became a "stay-at-home-mom". She involved herself with her children's schools and sports and music, but always found time for gardening and reading. History and archaeology kept her constantly fascinated. She always felt a duty to keep abreast of current events, and in time this led to a very real interest in politics and support for candidates. Declining health over a long period of time caused a curtailment of some things she enjoyed. She was always cheerful though, content each day with the relationship she enjoyed with Christ. Surviving, besides husband and daughters, are brother C.T. McDaniel (Joann) of Archer City, Texas, and 12 grandchildren: Jennifer and Jessica Kajs of Greenville, SC, Nicholas Mileti (Meg) of Cashiers, NC, Megan and Terra Mileti of Cashiers, NC, Austin and Samuel Hayes of Waynesville, NC, and Nathalie, Isabelle and Mariam Leuenberger of Zurich, Switzerland, and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. A reception to celebrate her life will be held Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Salem Funeral Home, Reynolda Chapel (corner of Polo and Reynolda Rds.) from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider gifts to Salvation Army, Catholic Charities or Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, O.O. Box 20424, Winston-Salem, NC 27120-0424.
