Actor. He will be best remembered as one of the main actors of Italian neorealist film. Franco began his acting career at age fifteen as star of the neorealist masterpiece film 'Sciuscià' ('Shoeshine') (1946), directed by Vittorio De Sica. In subsequent years, he was lead actor of many Italian film masterpieces, including notably 'Don Camillo' (1952) by Julien Duvivier, 'I Vinti' (1953) by Michelangelo Antonioni, 'I Vitelloni' (1953) by Federico Fellini and 'Giovani Mariti' (1958) directed by Mauro Bolognini. Luchino Visconti directed him in the play 'Morte di un Commesso Viaggiatore.'
