WINSTON-SALEM - Marlene Sachtleben Murray passed away on November 25, 2009. The beloved wife of Dr. Nial P. Murray, retired anesthesiologist from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, was born in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, and grew up in Newburgh, NY. She received a R.N. Degree from Vassar College, a B.S. from Columbia University and a M.S. from Simmons College. A registered nurse and medical researcher, she worked at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, and Beth Israel Hospital, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School. Over 25 years she partnered with Dr. Emanuel A. Friedman to research and co-author 54 published medical papers resulting in infant birth processes used today throughout the world. Retired in Winston-Salem, she was active in recent years with the Irish Children's Program. A funeral mass will be held at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 335 Springdale Avenue in Winston-Salem, at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 2, with Father Brian Cook officiating. A reception will be at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Senior Services, Inc., 2895 Shorefair Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
