Malinda Nickles-Shaeffer is the daughter of Peter Nickles and Mariah Gross. Her parents were born in Switzerland.

Anna Malinda Nickles is the name her parents gave her but she went by Malinda. She was born in Lockport, Ohio. Her parents relocated to Jamestown, Missouri in 1857.

While at Jamestown, Malinda married Henry William Shaeffer on April 26, 1868.

In the late 1870's Malinda and Henry moved to California, Missouri. They opened the Occidental Hotel.

Malinda and H. W. Shaeffer are the parents of Mary Shaeffer-Timpke, Olivia Shaeffer-Bennett-DeBow, Birdie Shaeffer-McElvain-Alexander-Wood, Eva Shaeffer-Brown-Haile, Della Shaeffer-Johnson, HattieShaeffer-Fletcher and Henry Arthur Shaeffer.

In the early 1890's they moved to Billings, Missouri.

Her husband Henry is beleived to have left his family and I have no record of him after 1895.

In 1919 Malinda moved to Washington State with her unmarried children. Most of her children were already married and living in the north west.

Malinda died of cancer on Jan. 24, 1925, a month after her son Henry died.

Malinda is my great great grandmother and I am proud of her and my Swiss heritage.

Special thanks to Carmen Adams for sponsoring this memorial and turning it over to me.
