During his career Emir caught an astonishing 314 individuals, from robbery and rape suspects to suicidal and missing persons.
Dep Rux and Emir received the PSO Medal of Valor and the PSO Lifesaving Award in 2000 for locating and pulling a suicidal man out of the Anclote River.
Emir's career was ended in 2002 when he was hurt in the line of duty. He was hurt when on call for assistance from the New Port Richey Police Department. A strong arm robbery suspect had hidden in a home and Emir found him in a bathroom. The suspect fled through a window and Dep. Rux released Emir to chase him. The team chased the suspect over three chain-link fences before Emir caught him.
Unfortunately, while climbing over the second fence, Emir ripped all the ligaments and tendons in his right leg. This painful injury did not stop him from catching his man.
Emir received the PSO Purple Heart for his last catch.
Emir lived the past four years in retirement with Dep. Rux and his family, possibly passing on tips from his years of experience to his handler's new partner, K-9 Sam.
A great big thank you to Medora for sponsoring Emir's page. What a wonderful thing to do.
