Information shows that Robert was one of many children of Rev. Griffith & Jannet (Cardagan) Jones. His parents left Wales in 1749 and settled in Duck Creek, Kent Co. DE.

Robert married Jane Bolton. It has been shown that Robert was born on 20 May 1743 in Chester Co, PA or Duck Creek, DE. His death date is shown as 15 Apr 1809.

Records further cite that Robert came from Delaware to Western PA in about 1770. Robert had patents on two parcels of land. One was in Monongahela township, the other was in Whiteley township. He settled first in Greene Co, on Whitely Creek, a tributary of the Monongahela River. Robert was a longtime member of the Goshen Baptist Church.

It is further noted that Rachel (Jones) Evans (buried in this cemetery) was the daughter of Robert & Jane. Also, the SAR shows that Robert served his country during the Revolutionary War.

There apparently are 3 separate early Jones family groups buried in Garards Fort Cemetery. They were all buried between 1809 - 1846.

A confirmed connection has yet been made for Robert & Jane Jones to the Morgan Jones family or to Susannah & her dau Elisabeth Jones. It is noted that Morgan Jones and Robert Jones family were related. Both families did come from New Castle County, Delaware however no proof to show this has yet been found.

Probate on Robert's estate started on 19 Apr 1809 in Greene County, Estate file 124. Final papers were apparently file in Aug 1809.

In response to another contributor about this Robert Jones and his father Rev. Griffith Jones. - Jones as everyone knows is an extremely common surname. There are multiple Rev. Griffith Jones who came to America in the late 1600 to the early 1700s. The port of Philadelphia and the surrounding area of Delaware and Pennsylvania are where many settled at that time. Many publications record their existence, one of these is The Johns Connections.
