Ralph Schifberg, of Los Angeles, CA, died Oct 15 at the age of 91. He was born in Warsaw, Poland on January 20 1922. Ralph Schifberg lived two lives, one in Poland and one in the USA. His life in Poland was a horror. He was hated by his countrymen because he was Jewish, and when the Nazis invaded he was subjected to unimaginable terrors, enduring the murder of his family, friends and relatives. Ralph and another teenager, Anna (whom he would marry), managed to be two of the handful of people to survive the Warsaw Ghetto. His life in the USA was a different story. Ralph arrived with his pregnant wife, Anna, and a young daughter. He did not speak English nor did he have a high school education. Thanks to incredible hard work and determination, he eventually became a very successful businessman and created a new life for his family -- a true American success story. Ralph was very lucky in love. Later in life, after his wife Anna passed away, he managed to marry another loving woman, Joan Wortman. While his experiences in the Holocaust left him forever scarred, his life will forever remain an inspiration to his family. He is survived by his wife Joan, his three children, Frances Michael and Neil Schifberg, both of Eugene, OR and Henry Schifberg, of Los Angeles and three grandchildren, Matthew, Jeremy and Benjamin Schifberg. Ralph had one older brother (out of nine siblings) Abraham, who survived the war by fleeing to Israel in the 1930's and who has three surviving children, Ralph's nieces, Tova Shifberg and Zipora Shifberg-Mencher, and his nephew, Israel Shifberg.
