Irene P. Spurgeon, age 90, passed away Sunday August 2, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Irene was born March 1, 1925 in Sarcoxie, MO to William Pryor and Anna “Burkey” Pryor. She was a lifetime resident of Carthage. Irene was retired from Juvenile Shoe Factory in Sarcoxie after several years. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #2590, Surviving Spouses of Carthage, and active at the Over Sixty Center. Irene was united in marriage to Owen R. Spurgeon in Greenfield, MO on August 29, 1942. He preceded her in death September 1997. Irene is survived by one daughter, 2 sons and 5 grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Mary Koscelnik and Betty Marshal, one half sister, Dorothy Whitaker, and one half brother William “Buck” Pryor.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday August 8, 2015 at Dudman Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday August 7, 2015 at Ulmer Funeral Home.
