Elsie Schlenker was born March 19, 1928 in Canada, the daughter of Michael Welygan and Anna (Schwetz) Welygan. She grew up in Gronlid, Saskatchewan where she received her elementary and High School education and grew to womanhood.
She and Joseph Schlenker were married July 12, 1950 at Nipawin, SK, Canada. They made their home on a farm east of Alfred, ND where they farmed for over 50 years. Following the death of her husband Joseph May 31, 2001 she continued to reside on the farm until 2009 when she moved into Jud. She later moved to the Gackle Care Center for a short time before moving to the Ave Maria Village in Jamestown in January of 2013.
She was a member of the Alfred Church of God Seventh-day. She also served as Sabbath School teacher for many years. Elsie also enjoyed waitressing at the Jud Café and met good friends there. Her hobbies included gardening, crafts, crocheting and reading her Bible. Elsie was very competitive when it can to participating in sports and board games. She is very talented with music instruments and singing. She was very hospitable, cooking many meal for church families and also had a positive attitude.
Surviving are two daughters and one son, Deborah Ann (Mike) Vlad, Betty Jo (Bill) Goldammer, Tim Schlenker; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Kerrie in 2008, four sisters and three brothers, Christina, Mary, Millie, Annie, John, Mike and Walter, one stepbrother, Metro.
Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM Sunday July 19, 2015 in the Church of God Seventh-day in Alfred, North Dakota with Rev. Stephen Kyner officiating. Interment will take place in the Church of God Cemetery NW of Jud, ND.
