The son of John E. & Catherine (Hess) Albert (mother's name listed as "Laden Hess" in his death certificate), in 1860 he was a laborer living with and/or working for farmer John Lease in Washington Township, York County, Pennsylvania. he stood 5' 9" tall and had dark hair and blue eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Chambersburg February 27, 1865, as a private with Co. G, 99th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company July 1, 1865.
In 1890, he lived in West Pennsboro Township, Cumberland County, but died in Huntington Township, Adams County, from "arterial sclerosis & gangrene in L. leg."
