John J. Quirk was born in Ireland about 1841, the son of Daniel & Eliza Quirk. In 1861 John joined the union army, enrolling in the 6th Reg Infantry, NJ Volunteers. He was promoted to Corporal on the 1st January 1864, and mustered out of the army on the 7th September that same year. He married Bridget Egan in 1867 in Jersey City and they had eleven children (of which at least six died in early childhood). John lived in Jersey City all of his adult life, and worked as a boilermaker. He died in Jersey City Hospital on the 25th November 1903. His wife Bridget and sons William and Harry are buried in the same grave. John has a Civil War Veteran headstone.
