In memory of
John MILLER
Who was born March 14; AD 1778
In Lancaster C, P.
And departed this life
August 13; AD. 1849
Aged 71 years 5 mo.
And 1 day
Text Isaiah 64 Chapter
Latter part of the 6 Verse.
My children when on this tomb
You gase. Remember within your
Father Layes.

The destruction of stones, either from the elements or vandalism can be seen on this stone. Fortunately, a decendant of John Miller, Russ Ottens (another Find A Grave contributor), was able to send me the earlier photo along with the corrections in the transcription data.

"I found a few inaccuracies that I hope you'll correct. My great great grandmother was Mary Miller Seiders (Zeiders). If you look carefully at her stone, you'll see it says Daughter of John & Christina Miller, not "Hill."
Her father, John Miller, is buried there also. His stone was absolutely beautiful before it was vandalized. The late Bob Coleman of Summerdale fixed it as best he could, but much of the inscription was lost. See the attached photo of how the stone used to look. Note that he was born in 1778 (not 1888) and died in 1849. After he died, his wife Christina Jane Enders Miller (my gr gr gr grandmother) moved to Missouri to live with her daughter Catherine. She died in 1851 and is buried in Davis Chapel Cemetery. You can find her (including a portrait) at the Findagrave web site.

If you didn't already know, Jacob Miller (1805-1871) and Joseph Miller (1817-1856) are brothers of Mary Miller Seiders and sons of John and Christina Jane Enders Miller."

The 1850 Mortality Census says that John died of Consumption, from which he was ill for 5 years.
