Peter Ashby was born to Jesse and Tamar Ruby Ashby in Virginia (Ohio, KY became part of KY in 1792). His father Jesse and mother Tamar traveled to KY from Maryland/Virginia in 1774 through the McCullough Path. John McCullough was his father's Uncle. Peter married twice. His first wife was Sarah Sally Rowe. They married Aug. 7, 1817. They had at least 3 children; Margaret who stayed in KY, Thomas, and Sally. Sarah appears to have died before 1838 when Peter remarried Nancy Downs on Dec. 3, 1838 in McLean, KY where Nancy's parents lived. They returned to Ohio, KY and had two daughters; Malinda and Amanda. These two daughters moved to Indiana after their father died sometime after 1860 in Ohio, KY. Peter Ashby can be seen living with his son Thomas from his first marriage on the 1860 census. His son Thomas was in the civil war in 1863, and by 1870, he had moved to Missouri. Peter's second wife Nancy appears to have died sometime before this 1860 census on Ohio, KY.
