American Actor. Towles was a character actor who appeared extensively in film and television, often playing seedy characters or obnoxious men. He became an actor after serving in the U.S. Marines, beginning with a small role in 'Dog Day Afternoon' (1975). He worked for more than a decade in Chicago theatre appearing in numerous productions as a member of the Organic Theatre Company and also acted with the prestigious Goodman Theatre. Since the 1980s, he has appeared in dozens of films, including every movie directed by Rob Zombie, where he always portrayed authority figures. Among films he had roles in were 'Pink Nights' (1985), 'Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer' (1986), the remake of 'Night of the Living Dead' (1990), 'The Pit and the Pendulum' (1991), 'Fortress' (1992), 'Blood In, Blood Out' (1993), 'The Rock' (1996), 'Warriors of Virtue' (1997), 'Doctor Dolittle' (1998), 'More Dogs Than Bones' (2000), 'House of 1000 Corpses' (2003), 'The Devil's Rejects' (2005), 'Miami Vice' (2006), 'Halloween' (2007) and 'Blood on the Highway' (2008). On television he had appearances in several shows, including 'NYPD Blue', 'L.A. Law', 'ER', 'Bakersfield P.D.', 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine', 'Star Trek Voyager', '3rd Rock from the Sun', 'Seinfeld', 'The Pretender' and 'The Drew Carey Show'. Towles died from complications following a stroke.
