Ben's parents were Morris and Polly Taitel. He graduated from school in Boston, then attended the New England Conservatory of Music. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946 as a radar repairman.

He married Margaret Ann MacKenzie in Washington, D.C. on March 30, 1946. He worked in banking in Billings, Montana before moving to Eugene in 1973 to work for the Social Security Administration.

Ben was an actor who appeared in many local television commericals and print ads. He performed, directed and served as the box office manager at Eugene's Very Little Theatre. He was active in the music and drama departments at Willamette Christian Center, served a tour guide at the Hult Center, and belonged to Support Hult Operations.

He volunteered at McCornack School in Eugene, belonged to the Eugene Eagles Aerie, the Masonic Lodge and the Royal Archmasons. He also belonged to the Al Bedoo Shrine in Billings.

His wife Margaret passed away November 12,1991. On January 24, 1997, he married Della Mae Jenkins, in Eugene.

At the time of his passing, Ben was survived by his wife; four very beloved daughters, Christine Emmett, Phyllis Taitel, Paula Charboneau and Leslie Schmunk; and six adored grandchildren.
