San Francisco Chronicle, Monday, November 26, 1917
MRS. RUTH GUTHRIE MAHNKE
PASSES AWAY IN RICHMOND
-------------------------
We take the following from a Richmond paper of recent date:
Mrs. Ruth Guthrie Mahnke, wife of Police Officer Charles J. Mahnke, died last night shortly before midnight following an attack of pneumonia. Mrs. Mahnke had been seriously ill for several weeks and during the past few days her condition became so serious that it was known she had small hope for recovery.
The deceased woman was a native of Trinity county, this state, and was 35 years of age. She had a host of friends in Richmond, where she had made her home since 1906.
During the last two days Dr. Smallwood was in constant attendance, day and night at the bedside of the stricken woman, but the utmost efforts of himself and Mrs. C. L. and U. S. Abbott were unavailing.
Mrs. Mahnke is survived by her husband, Charles J. Mahnke, daughters Sue and Naomi, and step-daughter Ruth, sisters Miss Flora Guthrie, Mrs. Hollingsworth, Mrs. Cook, Mrs. McClain and Mrs. Johnson of Sacramento; brother, Albert Guthrie of Humboldt, county. She was a close personal friend of Mrs. Claude Clark, the two having gone to school together to City Attorney D. J. Hall when he was a teacher in Trinity county a number of years ago.
